Teachings
We believe that the Bible is the only standard for our faith and as such it’s words must be held above the words of men. Nearly every church makes the same statements about the Bible, although they disagree about what it teaches. We have adopted the Second London Baptist Confession of 1689 for a number of reasons. We do not believe that our confession of faith has the same authority as the Scriptures, therefore we study the things contained in our confession, comparing them to God’s Word. Even though we are convinced
that the 1689 LBC is the best statement of what the Bible teaches, as we study we ask “Is this what the Scriptures teach?”
There are at least seven practical reasons that we have a written confession of faith.
-
-
- It is an expression of pre-commitment to orthodox historic biblical Christianity.
- It is a guide in times of doctrinal uncertainty or controversy.
- It is a declaration of what is to be expected in the preaching and teaching ministry of the church.
- It promotes the unity of the church by giving a body of core beliefs
- It is an outline of comprehensive systematic Bible study
- It is a standard of doctrinal soundness in selection of teachers and elders.
- It is instructive in church order and discipline
